The challenge

Ballyhoura is a region in the south of Ireland that spans three counties. Because of its scale, it’s a hard region to promote. Well-established and uber-popular destinations like Wicklow and Kerry provide constant competition for regional tourism.

What we did

  • Script-writing, storyboarding, copywriting, social media management

For us, this was an exciting opportunity to get creative. We wanted to find compelling, unique stories to share, from all around the Ballyhoura region. From adventure tourism to historical gems, we created a series of videos promoting diverse activities visitors to the region could enjoy. While the primary brief was for social media, our goal was to ensure the content had longevity.

Oisín O’Callaghan puts Ballyhoura’s new trails to the test

Ballyhoura local and Elite Downhill Mountain Biker Oisín O’Callaghan is widely respected in the Irish mountain biking community. After a hugely successful World Cup season—where he won Ireland’s first Elite World Cup—Oisín returns to his home training ground to test out the new trails. The video was aimed at inspiring young and old riders to embrace winter riding and come to Ballyhoura for the diversity of its trail network.

The Donkey Sanctuary: A family-friendly day out

This video was aimed at highlighted a fun, free family-friendly activity in the Ballyhoura region. Located outside Liscarroll village, Co. Cork, the Donkey Sanctuary has loved and cared for thousands of neglected and abandoned donkeys from across Ireland since 1987.

Ballyhoura Trail Centre: Your starting point for a great adventure

Mountain biking trail centres around Ireland are quite different, and often lack facilities. We wanted to showcase what makes the Ballyhoura Trail Centre unique: it has everything you need for a great ride in one place.

Galtee experiences

Many people don’t realise the Galtee mountains are part of the Ballyhoura region; this video was aimed at showcasing unique experiences visitors could enjoy at the footsteps of the Galtee Mountains.

Photography

In addition to the videos (our primary goal) we wanted to capture photos that would succinctly convey each project and could be used for Ballyhoura Tourism’s website, as thumbnails for the videos, and add to their social media content bank.

Conclusion

Working with Ballyhoura Tourism was a very enjoyable collaboration, spanning 8 months and multiple projects. We genuinely believe the region has so much to offer and given the positive feedback, feel like we achieved our goal.

We:

  • used the scale of the region to our advantage
  • showcased a diverse range of experiences visitors can enjoy
  • ensured the content had longevity
