The challenge

Rachel Māia is a New Zealand para-climber and mum. Our goal was to create a compelling story about Rachel’s life and ambitions, on the anniversary of her amputation—and tell it with empathy and sensitivity.

What we did

This project was a collaboration between Macpac’s content team, Break the Resistance and Chris Brooks (Motive Digital NZ) who edited the film. Barry filmed interview footage and the climbing footage from the wall, while Mallika was the primary photographer.

“Absolutely loved this, Rachel. Thank you for showing up and sharing your story. You’re one of the most authentic and beautiful climbing mamas I know.”

Conclusion

A wholesome project which Rachel was very proud of. The film was a success for Macpac on YouTube (one of the first “documentary” style features on their channel) and was selected for the New Zealand Mountain Film Festival. For Macpac, the film not only brought positive attention to their ambassador, but also sold key products that Rachel wore in the film.
